Furvey 2 - Furry Media & Costumes

11. Who are your favourite furry characters?

Pipkin from Watership Down - he's unjustly ignored by too many people, and is a far more interesting character than he's often given credit for. Actually, I think all the characters in WD are very well defined, although I don't like them all - unlike in the film or TV series, the book's Vervain is a sadist of the first order. Though I do have to confess a soft spot for the TV series' Vervain's insane laughter, even though rabbits aren't supposed to laugh. Blackberry a doe as well! And another thing I don't like about that series... *a sudden gloopy splash as Loganberry is pushed into a handy mud-pit*

Other than Watership Down characters, I have a soft spot for Juniper, a squirrel from "The Silver Tide"; Rik, the star of "The Hare at Dark Hollow"; Stigand the otter from "Frost Dancers" and "Hunter's Moon"; various Muppets; and Richard Scarry's Lowly Worm! =:P

12. What type of furry artwork do you enjoy viewing?

Well, I have fairly broad tastes here, and can admire both serious intricate studies and broad-brush humour. I'm not really interested in yiffy artwork or in anything very violent, but other than that if it's well done, I'll probably like it - especially if it has rabbits in it! =;) However, if you want me to get specific in terms of artists, then I'd probably say Eliki, Befrafa and Va-Kasi, the last two for their Watership Down fanart, which can be seen on Entei-rah's Thank U Stars site.

13. What type of furry literature do you enjoy reading?

*grins* Watership Down! =:D It's a book whose importance to me simply cannot be overstated: it has literally changed my life more than once. For one thing, it was (as you'll see later in this Furvey) the catalyst for my finding furry in the first place! Even without that personal importance, though, WD is still a wonderful book simply to read.

I generally enjoy reading furry books along the same lines as WD - zoomorphic animals who may be able to talk and reason, but don't wear clothes or drive cars. Specifically, Garry Kilworth's books such as "Frost Dancers" or (the book I'm currently part-way through) WJ Corbett's "The Song of Pentecost".

14. What types of furry media do you create?

I write things. Most furs seem to be more at home with the visual image than the written word, but while I am a mediocre artist at best, I do very much enjoy writing, and so I choose to spend my creative time on that rather than on drawing. Essays, stories, poems, courses in the Lapine language - I'll try my paw at most things. =:)

As for websites, I have two:

1) Bits'n'Bob-stones - This is my Watership Down fansite, and its central content is "Frithaes! An Introduction to Colloquial Lapine", which does exactly what it says on the tin. As I said earlier, I make no claims to being any great linguist, but I'm pretty pleased with the way my extension of the Lapine of "Watership Down" has turned out, and I'm flattered that several people have used bits of it in their own WD fanfic. On "B'n'B", you'll also find a motley collection of other stuff, such as the spec for the Watership Down Geek Code, various reviews of WD-related books/films/radio programmes, maps of some of the important locations from the book, and an Updates page which is occasionally cryptically humorous. =;)

2) Logan's Runes - That's the one you're looking at right now! =;) This is is where my original stuff goes. At the time of writing, it contains a couple of essays, several poems, one attempt at a piece of music and quite a few photos of wild rabbits. It also contains my Furvey. At least, I hope it does, or I'll be somewhat worried as to how you're managing to read this! =;)

You can also find a few other bits and pieces, such as my unfinished furry story, "Chances With Wolves", at my FictionPress account.

15. What types of animal/furry themed decorations adorn your living space?

Three pictures by Eliki (two originals and one print), a 40" by 30" cinema poster for the Watership Down film, a rabbit calendar, a few of my favourite Suburban Jungle strips and a few printouts from Yerf. Plushies, of course. A couple of little ceramic rabbit figures. Oh, and a couple of Christmas cards that I can't bear to take down. =;)

16. Describe your ideal plushie.

Soft, huggable, lapine, cheap. Charity shops are fantastic! =:D

17. Do you enjoy wearing fursuits and/or furry accessories?

I certainly want to get hold of some decent ears at some point, although as with most of these things not being American greatly restricts the choice - all you seem to be able to get over here, unless you're very lucky, are those tiny things for children's parties. And I have no intention of buying a plushie and cutting its ears off! =;) I suppose I may even make some myself someday if I can't find anything that will do me.

I could never wear a collar. They remind me far too much of snares; actually I don't like having anything round my neck, and even avoid wearing ties whenever I can. And rabbit tails are a bit silly anyway, if I'm honest. =:P

A full fursuit... well, I won't deny that in the last year I've become more accommodating to the idea, after seeing one or two rabbit fursuits that don't look like cartoon characters. Obviously, given the great expense, it's not going to be something for the near future, but I no longer entirely rule it out. As I implied a minute ago, it would have to be as realistic as possible, though.

18. Do you feel 'furrier' when wearing a fursuit/collar/tail etc?

Well, as I don't have those things (yet?), I can't answer directly. However, I do have a little pewter rabbit pin badge I picked up from eBay, and I tend to wear it on the lapel of my coat. And yes, that does have a nice feeling to it. Okay, so most people won't even notice it's there, and most of those who do won't realise the meaning behind it... but I know. =:)

19. Describe your favourite/ideal 'furry' appearance.

I think I've pretty much covered this in the last two answers, actually.
